Man arrested after youths were robbed at knifepoint in Harlow

A man has been arrested after young men were threatened and robbed at knifepoint in Harlow.

A 22-year-old man from Basildon was taken into Police Custody last night on suspicion of three robberies and one attempted robbery.

The incidents took place in Harlow town centre on Wednesday, March 23rd, in the evening.

Several young men were threatened in underpasses and cycle paths; some being forced to hand over their phones and wallets.

Officers were granted additional stop and search powers throughout the night and Detectives launched an investigation. This led to suspect being arrested.

Chief Inspector Paul Austin, District Commander for Harlow, said: "Officers have been supporting the victims who, thankfully, were not physically harmed during the robberies, but are understandably very shaken by their ordeals.

You’ll see a more visible presence in the area from our officers over the next few days and, if you have any concerns, I’d urge you to speak to them."

The suspect remains in custody for questioning.
