A teenager has been arrested after a school boy was stabbed when a fight broke out between a large number of youths in Alum Rock.

Aged 13, the teen, who we cannot name for legal reasons, is being held on suspicion of attempted murder, and remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Simon Hanlon, leading the investigation said: “We’re still trying to establish exactly what happened and why, but our investigation has already made really good progress."

On the 17th of February West Midlands Police were called to the scene at 3.20pm. The victim, aged 14, suffered stab injuries that were not life threatening.

DS Hanlon said: "This was a really nasty attack, and the young victim is lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries."

The Police have recovered CCTV footage of the fight and have had a good response from witnesses and the local community.

They encourage anyone with any information to contact them.
